Shakira will open a marathon twelve‑concert run in Madrid on Friday evening, bringing her world tour to a close and ending the Colombian superstar’s eight‑year absence from Spain.
The 49‑year‑old “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)” singer will perform at a temporary 50,000‑seater “Shakira stadium” erected in the south of the Spanish capital, with the venue operating until 11 October, according to Live Nation.
With no other European tour dates announced, Madrid authorities are anticipating a significant economic windfall from the star’s return, following the city’s hosting of fellow Hispanic icon Bad Bunny for ten gigs in May and June.
Shakira has not performed in Spain since 2018, before her separation from former Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué was made public in 2022. She began the world tour in February 2025 to promote the album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, inspired by her breakup with the Barcelona defender and winner of a fourth Grammy. The singer has sold more than 95 million records worldwide and performed at both the opening ceremony and final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. “Waka Waka” was also the official song of the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
In November 2023, Shakira paid a €7.3 million fine as part of an agreement with Spanish courts, pleading guilty to avoid trial for tax fraud. She also settled her affairs in the country by paying €17.45 million to the Spanish taxman.
