Seven modular refineries, together capable of processing 83,000 barrels of crude oil per day, are slated to begin operations in Nigeria in 2027, an industry expert has said.
The new plants will use modular technology, allowing them to be built in sections and assembled on site. This approach is expected to shorten construction times and reduce costs compared with traditional, large‑scale refineries.
According to the expert, the project is part of a broader effort to increase domestic refining capacity and lessen the country’s dependence on imported petroleum products.
When fully operational, the refineries could help Nigeria meet growing demand for fuels and petrochemicals while supporting local job creation and economic growth.
