Erin Cuthbert lauded the performance of Lauren Davidson after Scotland’s women’s team secured a place in the World Cup play‑off against Sweden, despite the absence of key defender Caroline Weir.
Davidson stepped into the gap left by Weir’s injury or suspension, delivering a solid defensive display that helped the Scots keep a clean sheet in their recent match. Cuthbert praised her composure and tactical awareness, noting that Davidson’s contribution was instrumental in the team’s success.
With Weir unable to feature, the squad had to rely on depth and resilience. Davidson’s performance has been highlighted as a bright spot, showing that the side can adapt to personnel changes without compromising defensive solidity.
Scotland’s victory has set up a high‑profile play‑off tie with Sweden, a match that will determine which nation advances to the World Cup finals. The encounter is expected to be a showcase of tactical prowess and individual skill from both sides.
As the Scottish team prepares for the clash, the focus will be on maintaining the defensive structure that proved effective in the absence of Weir, while capitalising on the attacking opportunities presented by their opponents.
