Four days after undergoing lung‑cancer surgery, Pope Leo returned to the Vatican, ending a brief hospital stay that began earlier this week.
The Holy See had initially projected that the Pope would remain in the hospital for about a week and consequently cancelled all of his public audiences through Tuesday.
Medical experts noted that patients who recover well can be discharged earlier than originally expected, a factor that appears to have applied in the Pope’s case.
With his return, the Pope is now back in the Vatican and may soon resume his regular duties, although no specific schedule for upcoming audiences has been announced.
The Vatican, an independent city‑state and the spiritual headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, often adjusts its public engagements in response to the health of its leader.
