The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three men suspected of belonging to a cattle‑rustling syndicate that operates between Jigawa and Kano states, and has recovered 11 stolen animals in two separate operations.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the first incident took place on 15 September 2026. A distress call from the Roni Police Division reported that a herder had been attacked at Shema Forest near Dabi Village in Roni Local Government Area. The suspects allegedly tied the herder’s neck and legs with a rope before taking 10 cows valued at about N10.5 million. Police operatives mobilised immediately, launched a coordinated pursuit and recovered all 10 cows, though the suspects fled into the surrounding forest.
In a related operation on 31 August, officers in Garki Local Government Area found a rustled bull tied under a neem tree along the Garki Bypass on the Gumel–Kano Road. The bull was identified as one of three cattle stolen from the residence of Alhaji Jamilu Naladan. Acting on intelligence gathered during the investigation, police conducted a discreet operation that led to the arrest of three suspects from Jigawa and Kano states.
The suspects were identified as Jamilu Sa’idu of Kwanar Jaba Quarters, Kano State; Alasan Yau and Yushau Musa, both of Kudi Village, Garki Local Government Area. The police said they were assisting with the investigation and that preliminary findings indicated they were members of a specialised cattle‑rustling network operating across the Jigawa‑Kano axis.
Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Tijjani Murtala, praised the officers involved for their prompt response and professionalism. The command said the recovered animals were returned to their rightful owners and that further investigations into the syndicate are ongoing.
