Real Madrid forward Vinícius Jr has publicly called for greater protection for attacking players, citing himself, Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal and Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez as examples of players who feel they are unfairly targeted by referees.
In a statement released to the press, the Brazilian striker expressed frustration over what he described as “unfair treatment on the pitch,” arguing that defenders can foul him repeatedly without adequate sanction.
Jr highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of rules that guard forwards from repeated challenges, suggesting that the current approach leaves attackers vulnerable to repeated fouls.
He singled out Yamal, a promising talent from Barcelona’s youth ranks, and Álvarez, a key striker for Atlético Madrid, as fellow players who would benefit from stronger referee protection.
The comments arrive amid ongoing discussions about the consistency of refereeing decisions in top‑tier football, with many players and clubs calling for clearer guidelines to safeguard attacking play.
