Plateau State Government has condemned in the violent attack on Thursday in Gassa, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, which resulted in the loss of three lives.
Three vigilantes were killed when armed group opened fire while they were keeping watch over the community following violent attacks in Barkin Ladi and neighbouring local government areas.
The killing prompted protests by youths and women in the area, who blocked the Barkin Ladi – Mangu road.
The government describing the incident as deeply regrettable and unacceptable.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, the government commiserated with the families of those who lost their loved ones and assures the people of Kassa and the entire state that security agencies are already taking necessary steps to fish out the perpetrators and prevent further occurrences.
The government said that it had put security measures in place to ensure free and safe ride to motoring public along the Jos – Barkin Ladi – Mangu highway.
The statement said, “Government appreciates the expression of grief by the families and communities of the deceased but urges all to sustain peace in the affected community without blockage of the road and thereby putting travellers in jeopardy.
“Government wishes to assure travellers that the road is clear and open to motorists and other road users. Citizens are therefore urged to go about their lawful activities without fear, while remaining vigilant and cooperating with security agencies.
”The Time Is Now Administration, under the leadership of His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang,Esq,remains committed to strengthening collaboration with security agencies and communities across the State to improve the security network and build sustainable peace.
The government called on traditional, religious and community leaders, as well as all peace-loving citizens, to support ongoing efforts to prevent escalation and maintain calm in Kassa, Barkin Ladi and other vulnerable communities.
