Pierre Emmanuel Binyam, a candidate for the presidency of Cameroon’s Movement for the Renaissance (Mouvement pour la Renaissance du Cameroun, MRC), announced that veteran opposition leader Maurice Kamto will serve as the party’s standard‑bearer in the country’s next presidential election.
Binyam made the declaration in a recent statement, emphasizing that the party will rally behind Kamto as its chosen candidate for the upcoming vote, which is expected to be held in 2025, five years after the last presidential poll.
“Maurice Kamto est notre candidat à la prochaine présidentielle,” Binyam said, underscoring the party’s confidence in Kamto’s ability to lead a broad-based campaign against the incumbent administration.
The Movement for the Renaissance, a relatively new political formation, seeks to position itself as a reformist alternative in Cameroon’s contested political arena.
