Gabriel Pidomson, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for governor of Rivers State, has issued a public challenge to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, demanding an open debate on the state’s governance ahead of the February election.

In a video posted to his official Facebook page on Thursday, Pidomson accused Wike of blocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Kingsley Chinda from addressing Rivers residents about his manifesto. He also claimed that Wike has mismanaged the state for eight years and has been “ruling by proxy” for the past three years.

Pidomson described Rivers as a “failed project” and called on Wike to explain how the state’s resources have been handled over the past twelve years, including the eight years of Wike’s own tenure and the three years of proxy rule.

“APC needs to tell us what they have for Rivers people. It’s not about carrying your son behind you and not allowing him to speak to Rivers people on what he has to offer,” Pidomson said. “Well, if the FCT Minister thinks he is the one on the ballot, I’m challenging him to a debate on governance in Rivers State.”

The challenge comes as Rivers State prepares for its February gubernatorial election, with the ADC and APC vying for control of the oil‑rich state. Pidomson’s remarks highlight growing frustration among opposition parties over perceived political dominance and lack of transparency in the state’s administration.
