The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has turned down a request from Turkish club Galatasaray to bar striker Victor Osimhen from representing Nigeria in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Galatasaray had asked the NFF to prevent Osimhen from playing in the Super Eagles’ matches against Madagascar on 25 September and Guinea‑Bissau on 29 September. The club’s appeal was rejected, with the federation stating that it needs the former Napoli striker for the crucial fixtures.
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has already called Osimhen up to the national squad for the qualifiers. The 28‑year‑old is currently recovering from a groin injury and will miss Galatasaray’s match against Trabzonspor on Saturday.
Despite the injury, the NFF has emphasised the importance of Osimhen’s presence for Nigeria’s campaign, underscoring the player’s role in the team’s upcoming matches against Madagascar and Guinea‑Bissau.
