One Nation’s Victorian campaign launch over the weekend featured an AI‑generated video that displayed a series of stereotyped images of ethnic groups, prompting criticism of the party’s use of artificial‑intelligence technology in political advertising.

The clip showed a man who appears to be African brandishing a machete, an apparently Middle Eastern man wearing an explosive vest, a South Asian man in a turban speaking about “mass migration”, and an Indigenous elder discussing “money … on the basis of need, not identity”. The video has been described as an “inflammatory” collection of racist tropes.

According to reports, the video was created using unrestricted access to AI tools, illustrating how the “wild west” of online politicking can produce content that spreads harmful stereotypes without editorial oversight.

Australian media watchdogs have responded by calling for expanded powers to monitor and intervene in the use of AI‑generated political material, arguing that current regulations are insufficient to address the rapid emergence of such content.

One Nation, a right‑wing populist party that has previously been criticised for its stance on immigration and multiculturalism, has not publicly commented on the specific video, but the incident adds to ongoing scrutiny of its campaign tactics.
