Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo‑Agege, now the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Delta Central senatorial seat, has called for a transparent and thorough investigation into the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a deputy director at the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. Adeda was last seen heading to her office in Asaba on Friday, 25 September 2026, and never returned home.
Police confirmed that an incident occurred at the ministry the previous day and have opened a homicide investigation. Three individuals have been named in connection with the alleged assault: Enos Attah, Oputa Okestine and Lucky Adoh. The statement notes that Lucky Adoh is already in custody, while the other two suspects remain at large.
“We’re not going to jump ahead of the investigation. We still need to establish the exact cause of death, and we owe it to Adeda’s memory to ensure we get it right instead of just getting it done quickly,” Omo‑Agege said.
The senator praised the police for their prompt response, urging that the inquiry remain swift, thorough and free from external pressure. He also demanded that the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Kingsley Ashibogwu, step aside while investigations continue, stressing that such a step is not an admission of guilt but a measure to preserve public confidence.
Omo‑Agege called for the police to locate Enos Attah and Oputa Okestine and for any individuals found responsible to face a full and transparent prosecution. He further insisted that the findings of the administrative panel set up over the incident, together with the police report, be made public. Extending condolences to Adeda’s family, he pledged to keep fighting until the truth is revealed and justice is served, warning that no civil servant should have to fear for their safety after a day’s work.
