Operatives of the Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have intercepted a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography P530 valued at over N417 million, alongside significant quantities of narcotics and other contraband at the Idiroko Border Post.
Acting Customs Area Controller Oladapo Afeni disclosed the seizures on Thursday during a briefing on the command’s operational performance between August and September 2026. The intercepted items included 1,878 tonnes of cannabis indica, 1,204 bags of foreign parboiled rice, and 8,675 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in kegs.
The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of all seized items was placed at N2,469,153,523.68. Other confiscated goods listed by Afeni included 428 pneumatic tyres, 24 bales of second-hand clothing, four sacks of used shoes, 500 litres of diesel, premium used vehicles, and illegal wildlife and solid minerals.
Afeni stated that the command’s anti-smuggling drives have dealt severe blows to illicit trade networks operating across Ogun State. He emphasized that the seizures demonstrate the command’s zero-tolerance policy toward border economic sabotage, while noting that the cannabis will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Idiroko Special Command for further investigation.

He also noted sustained dialogue with traditional rulers and community leaders to build mutual trust and reduce hostility during enforcement operations.
Afeni concluded by commending the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the command’s personnel for their dedication. He warned that the Ogun 1 Command would remain a "hostile zone" for uncustomed goods and illicit trade, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s economic interests and national security.
