A 38‑year‑old man has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) after he was accused of molesting an eight‑year‑old girl in Fana village, Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The case was reported by the victim’s parents to the NSCDC office in Kamba, where the agency’s Gender Officer, Abbas Sa’adu, obtained the necessary information. The survivor was taken to Mai Talle Tara SARC in Kalgo for a medical examination and documentation, including a medical report.
Following the report, the NSCDC moved the suspect to the Kebbi State Command for detention and further legal procedures. However, the suspect complained of ill health upon arrival, and officers declined to detain him until he was medically examined. The Technical Working Group on Gender‑Based Violence (TWG on GBV) confirmed that the suspect’s medical condition was later found to be non‑serious.
During discussions on the matter, the TWG on GBV rejected a suggestion that the victim’s parents pay the medical expenses. Instead, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Nura Fingilla, agreed to cover the costs, citing the absence of a relative of the suspect who could do so.
NSCDC officers assured the TWG on GBV that the suspect would be presented before the appropriate court for further legal proceedings. The group also advised the NSCDC Kebbi Command to use its medical unit or health facility for preliminary examinations of suspects who report minor health complaints.
