Sporting Lagos were beaten 2‑0 by Abia Warriors at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan on Sunday. The Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) match saw goals from Ikoi Etta and Chukwumeka Obioma, ending a fiercely contested encounter that left the home side on the losing end.
“Always disappointing to lose especially in front of the home fans,” said Sporting Lagos technical adviser Jeffery Buter in a post‑match interview.
Buter admitted that the team made errors in a desperate bid to find a late goal. “I think we had a good game, we maybe made some mistakes with the substitution, but in the inside we were trying to find goals, we have to put players up the pitch,” he added. He highlighted that two mistakes led to the counter‑attacking goals, describing the result as a “disappointing” one.
The defeat comes at a time when Sporting Lagos are looking to regain momentum. “Two mistakes, two goals conceded on the counter so it was a disappointing result for us,” Buter said, underscoring the need for tighter defensive play.
Sporting Lagos will next face Enyimba in Aba, a match that will test whether the team can learn from the loss and secure a better outcome.
