‘Not in our state’ – NDC Chair on Wike stopping Peter Obi from winning Rivers [VIDEO]

The chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Success Jack, has publicly rebuffed claims that the 2023 presidential election in Rivers State was rigged against the Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi.

Jack’s comments came after FCT Minister Nyesom Wike alleged that he and other members of the now‑defunct G‑5 Governors had prevented Obi from winning the state in the 2023 election. Wike’s remarks were made in the run‑up to the 2027 presidential contest.

According to Jack, the electoral environment has changed since 2023 and any attempt to manipulate results would be futile. “What the Minister said doesn’t worry me a bit because the electoral system has changed,” he said.

“When people vote, they have to police it to make sure that it is transmitted at the polling units and then police it to make sure that it is transmitted at the local government collation centres,” Jack added.

He also dismissed reports that security agencies might be used to intimidate voters, saying, “I’m not sure that a security agent will come to one polling unit and kill everyone.”

Jack concluded by wishing Wike well but emphasised that the Minister’s influence would not extend to Rivers State. “Whatever the Minister said, I wish him well, but not in our Rivers State,” he said.
