A Nigerian national working as a canvasser for a Democratic congressional campaign in Pennsylvania has been arrested by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following a guilty plea to disorderly conduct. The arrest of Chimaobim Adedayo Igbojekwe was announced by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in a statement issued on October 7, 2026.

According to the DHS, Igbojekwe was initially detained in East Pennsboro Township, Pennsylvania, on September 27 on charges of indecent exposure and disorderly conduct. He subsequently pleaded guilty to the disorderly conduct charge, leading to his arrest by ICE agents on October 1 following his conviction.

The department disclosed that Igbojekwe was employed as a canvasser for Janelle Stelson, the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District, at the time of the incident. Citing local media reports, the DHS stated that he was found with his trousers off and exposing himself in a residential neighborhood near a park where residents, including children, were present.

Reacting to the incident, ICE Deputy Director Charles Wall criticized Stelson for employing Igbojekwe on her campaign team. “It’s unbelievable that Janelle Stelson would employ an illegal alien to work on a Congressional campaign, let alone a pervert who exposed himself in public,” Wall said. He further stated that DHS personnel are working to identify and remove undocumented immigrants considered dangerous to American communities, adding, “The Trump Administration will always put the safety of the American people first.”

The DHS statement detailed Igbojekwe’s immigration history, noting that he was lawfully admitted to the United States in June 2017. However, he remained in the country after his authorized period of stay expired in November 2019. The department added that he was granted deferred action by the administration of former President Joe Biden in September 2021.

The statement did not provide further details regarding the current status of his immigration proceedings.
