The Nigeria Open golf tournament will return in November 2027 after a 28‑year absence, the Nigeria Golf Federation announced today.
The annual event, which had not been held since 1999, is set to resume as part of a broader effort to revive professional golf in the country. The federation said the 2027 edition will be open to players from more than 20 countries, signalling a renewed focus on attracting international talent.
Details about the venue and the full field of competitors are still being finalised, but organisers have confirmed that the tournament will be staged at a leading Nigerian golf course and will feature a prize fund commensurate with other continental championships.
“We are excited to bring the Nigeria Open back to the world stage,” said a spokesperson for the federation. “This will provide a platform for local players to compete against some of the best golfers from across Africa and beyond.”
The return of the Nigeria Open is expected to boost the sport’s profile in the country and could help nurture the next generation of Nigerian golfers.
