Ahmed Musa has taken up his appointment as the new Assistant Inspector‑General of Police for Zone 10, a jurisdiction that includes the north‑western Nigerian states of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara. In his first statement after assuming duty, Musa pledged to intensify security operations across the three states.

The Zone 10 command, which oversees policing in a region that has periodically faced security challenges such as banditry and communal clashes, now falls under Musa’s leadership. His arrival follows a recent reshuffle of senior police officers aimed at bolstering law‑enforcement capacity in the area.

Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara are part of Nigeria’s north‑west geopolitical zone, an area that has attracted national attention due to recurring incidents of armed robbery, cattle rustling and inter‑communal violence. Strengthening police presence and response capabilities in these states has been a recurring priority for the federal government.

While Musa did not provide detailed operational plans, his commitment to “stronger security” signals an intent to coordinate more robust patrols, intelligence gathering and community engagement initiatives within the zone.

Observers note that the effectiveness of the new leadership will depend on how quickly resources are mobilised and how closely the police collaborate with state authorities and local communities to address the underlying drivers of insecurity.
