A large group of protesters gathered in Madrid on Tuesday to demand the resignation of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez over his handling of the ongoing migration crisis in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.
The demonstration, which attracted thousands of participants, called for new elections and criticised the government's response to the surge of migrants arriving by sea from North Africa.
Organisers said that the crisis in Ceuta had exposed what they see as a failure of policy and a lack of adequate resources to manage the influx of people seeking refuge.
“We want a new government that can protect the rights of migrants and ensure the safety of our borders,” a protester told reporters. “Sánchez must step down.”
The rally was part of a broader wave of anti‑government demonstrations across Spain, reflecting growing public frustration with the handling of migration and other domestic issues.
