NEMA’s Enugu Zonal Office head, Priscilla Madukwe, called the recent incident at Ring Road in Nibo, Anambra, “heartbreaking” after school children were trapped inside a bus that was stranded by a flooded road.
The bus, carrying pupils from a local school, was unable to cross the waterlogged stretch of Ring Road and the children remained inside until rescue teams arrived. The incident highlighted the dangers posed by the state’s persistent flooding, which has left many roads impassable.
“It was heartbreaking,” said Madukwe, who said the situation underscored the urgent need for better flood management and emergency response.
In response, NEMA has urged residents and commuters to exercise caution and to heed official warnings as the rainy season continues to bring widespread flooding across Anambra. The agency is monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with local authorities to ensure timely assistance to affected communities.
