The National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) has reconstituted its Standing Committees, appointing several commissioners to new leadership roles across the body’s various panels. Executive Chairman Saviour Enyiekere announced the changes during the Commission’s 32nd meeting, which took place this week in Abuja.
Enyiekere stated that the reconstitution was conducted in accordance with Section 7 of the Commission’s Standing Orders. He noted that the outgoing committees were permitted to remain in place until the announcement date to ensure they could conclude pending assignments before the formal handover. The Commission emphasized that the new arrangements take immediate effect and that all committees now include representation from all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
“I call for unity and cooperation among committee members and management to help the Commission achieve its mandate,” Enyiekere said.
Under the new structure, Enyiekere will continue to chair the Finance and General Purpose Committee, with all Commissioners serving as members. Lucky Ikharo, the Secretary to the Commission, has been retained as the Secretary for this panel. Other significant appointments include Lawan Maina Mahmud, Commissioner for North East, who will chair the Administration and Employee Relations Committee, with former Clerk of the House of Representatives Patrick Giwa serving as his deputy.
Further leadership changes see Aminu Ibrahim Malle, Commissioner for North East, taking over the Committee on Procurement and General Services, with Festus Ifesinachi Odii, Commissioner for South East, as deputy. Giwa, representing the South South zone, was named Chairman of the Establishment, Records and Training Committee, while Nnanna Uzor Kalu, Commissioner for South East, serves as his deputy. Kalu has also been appointed Chairman of the Committee on Zonal Offices and Legislative Aides, with Hanmation Mark Tersoo, Commissioner for North Central, as his deputy.
Additional appointments include Odii as Chairman of the Planning, Research and Library Services Committee, with Afeez Ipesa Balogun, Commissioner for South West, as deputy. Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi, Commissioner for North West, now heads the Committee on Promotion and Discipline, with Mary Ekpenyong, Commissioner for South South, serving as deputy. Balogun retains his chairmanship of the Committee on Public Affairs, with Hunkuyi serving as vice chairman.
The reconstitution also affects several other key panels. Tersoo was named Chairman of the Appeals and Legal Services Committee, with Mahmud as deputy. Salihu Umar Agboola Balogun, Commissioner for North Central, will lead the Committee on Information and Communication Technology, with Yusuf A. Yusuf, Commissioner for North West, as vice chairman. Yusuf will also serve as Head of the Internal Audit Committee, with Balogun as vice chairman. Finally, Ekpenyong was appointed Chairman of the Tenders Board, with Malle as her deputy.
