Former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have demanded clarification – and possibly an investigation – into the reported presentation of seven Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUVs to selected All Progressives Congress (APC) youth leaders. The vehicles, described in public statements and on social media as 2026 models, are said to be worth more than N1 billion in total.

The reported figures – each SUV allegedly valued at over N150 million – have not been independently verified, and the model year, purchase price and source of funding remain unclear. First Lady Oluremi Tinubu confirmed that the vehicles were donated to the APC youth wing but did not disclose the purchase price or whether the funds came from private donations, her personal resources or any public source.

“The APC National Youth Leader says these vehicles were donated by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu. Nigerians deserve to know where the money came from to buy and distribute so many 2026 model SUVs, each worth more than ₦150 million, for political mobilisation,” Atiku said.

Atiku’s statement, issued through ADC Presidential Campaign Council Director of Strategic Communication Phrank Shaibu, called the distribution “insensitive” amid the Federal Government’s economic reforms, and asked for details on the financiers, purchase costs and any use of public resources. The ADC echoed the criticism, describing the giveaway as “an obscene display of extravagance” while millions of Nigerians struggle with food, transport and basic necessities, and also asked who financed the SUVs.

Political economist Pat Utomi, some Tinubu supporters and other commentators reacted on social media, comparing the alleged expenditure to low soldiers’ salaries, inadequate healthcare funding and high unemployment. The NDC estimated each vehicle could cost around N145 million, putting the total at roughly N1.015 billion, while Seun Durojaiye claimed more than 20 Prados had been distributed at a cost exceeding N2 billion – both claims remain unverified. Atiku’s media adviser Paul Ibe urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent National Electoral Commission to obtain documentary evidence and assess whether campaign‑finance rules or public funds were breached. No agency has publicly confirmed opening an investigation.
