Between January and August 2026, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) treated more than 87,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition in Katsina State, a report from the organisation confirms.
MSF’s intervention focused on providing therapeutic feeding and medical care to children who were at risk of severe weight loss and related complications. The programme was part of a broader effort to address the growing nutritional crisis in northern Nigeria.
Katsina State, located in the north‑west of Nigeria, has faced persistent food insecurity and limited access to health services, conditions that have contributed to high rates of child malnutrition in the region.
The figure was disclosed in a recent MSF report, which highlighted the scale of the organisation’s work during the first eight months of 2026. The report was published by the Nigerian news outlet Punch.
