José Mourinho accepted responsibility for Real Madrid’s performance in the Champions League clash against AS Roma on Wednesday, after the Spanish club staged a dramatic comeback to win 4‑3. The match, played at the Stadio Olimpico, saw Madrid trail 3‑1 before a seven‑minute surge turned the game around.
In a post‑match interview, Mourinho praised his players for the resilience that allowed the team to overturn the deficit. He said the squad had shown character and determination, qualities he believes were crucial in securing the late victory.
The win came after a series of struggles for Madrid in the group stage, prompting the manager to take the blame for the team’s earlier shortcomings. He highlighted that the players’ effort in the final minutes was a testament to their commitment to the club’s ambitions.
Real Madrid’s comeback was the result of a swift sequence of goals, with the team scoring four in the final 15 minutes to level the score and then securing the win with a late strike. The victory keeps the Spanish side in contention for a place in the knockout rounds.
While the match ended in a win for Madrid, Mourinho’s admission of fault underscores the high expectations placed on the club and its manager in Europe’s premier competition.
