Mike Leigh’s latest feature, Tender Loving Care, swept the top prizes on the final night of the San Sebastián Film Festival, taking the Golden Shell for Best Film, the Best Screenplay award, and Best Lead Performance for Kate O’Flynn.
The awards were presented by a jury chaired by U.S. filmmaker Ira Sachs, who praised the film’s sharp dialogue and character depth. O’Flynn’s portrayal of the film’s central figure was singled out as a standout performance by the jury.
In addition to Leigh’s triumph, the audience awards went to La Bola Negra and NAZA, recognising the crowd’s favourite films of the festival.
San Sebastián, held annually in the Spanish city of the same name, is one of Europe’s most prestigious film festivals, drawing international filmmakers and audiences each year.
