France captain Kylian Mbappé suffered a hyper‑extension of the posterior capsule of his left knee while playing for the national side in a 1‑0 win over Turkey on Friday, Real Madrid said on Saturday. The injury forced the forward to leave the pitch shortly after scoring the opening goal.
Real Madrid’s medical department confirmed the diagnosis, stating: “Following tests carried out today by Real Madrid’s medical department on our player Kylian Mbappé, he has been diagnosed with a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee.” The club added that the injury could keep him out for “two weeks or more.”
New France coach Zinedine Zidane said the team would “not take any risks” and confirmed that Mbappé would not be used in the three Nations League matches scheduled over the next ten days.
France’s upcoming programme includes travel to Belgium on Monday, followed by home fixtures against Italy on October 2 and Belgium again on October 5 at the Stade de France.
Real Madrid’s first match after the international break is against Villarreal on October 10, which may be too soon for Mbappé’s return. However, Spanish daily AS reported on Saturday that the forward is expected to be ready for the club’s high‑profile Clasico clash with Barcelona on October 25.
