On Sunday, the University of Maryland’s athletic department announced the dismissal of defensive coordinator Ted Monachino, following a streak of losses in which the team allowed at least 35 points in each game.
The decision came a day after the Terrapins suffered a fifth straight defeat, a run that has seen the defense struggle to contain opposing offenses.
Monachino, who had been in the role for the past season, was responsible for the team’s defensive strategy and personnel decisions.
While the university has not yet named a replacement, the move reflects the program’s intent to address defensive performance and improve competitiveness.
