The Nguid Ejagham Development Initiative, in partnership with Ekume Ejagham NRW Germany, has officially launched "Nguid Ejagham (Ejagham Academy)," a web-based application designed to preserve and revitalize the Ejagham language. The platform, accessible globally at ejagham.org, serves as a digital bridge connecting the indigenous Ejagham people of Cameroon’s Manyu Division to their linguistic heritage, regardless of their geographic location.
The primary objective of the initiative is to enhance the daily use and learning of the Ejagham language, with a specific focus on the dialect spoken in Central Ejagham within the Eyumojock Sub-division. By transforming smartphones and computers into interactive classrooms, the application offers an innovative solution to the threat of language erosion in an increasingly globalized world.
The technical development of the platform was spearheaded by Tambendiparrah Tanyi, a German-trained engineer and Senior IT Consultant. To ensure the application met high standards, Tanyi assembled a dedicated technical team that included Mr. OjongTabot, a Senior Software Test Lead, and Mr. Roland Eta, a pharma technical support engineer.
The "Nguid Ejagham" application functions as an all-in-one educational ecosystem featuring a comprehensive digital dictionary, grammar guides, and structured practice exercises for beginners and intermediate speakers. For advanced users, the platform incorporates an AI-powered translator and an interactive AI Tutor. Additionally, users can engage with Ejagham culture through curated stories, proverbs, idioms, daily phrases, and a dedicated culture map.
With the application now fully functional and publicly available, community leaders are extending a call to action to Ejagham indigenes across the diaspora, including those residing in Limbe, Buea, Kumba, Douala, Yaoundé, Europe, and the Americas. Leaders emphasize that the success of the initiative relies entirely on community ownership and active engagement.
Parents are highly encouraged to use the application to teach their children the language of their ancestors, ensuring that the next generation does not lose its identity. Likewise, adults wishing to improve their fluency or reconnect with their heritage are urged to integrate the app into their daily routines.
The Nguid Ejagham Development Initiative calls upon all sons and daughters of Manyu to support the platform’s growth through continuous use and advocacy, aiming to ensure that the Ejagham language remains vibrant and celebrated for generations to come.
