Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has said the club is confident it will prove its innocence over 114 alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations.
The charges, which have been brought against the club by the Premier League, accuse Manchester City of violating rules that govern spending, wages and transfer fees. Al Mubarak told reporters that the club is prepared to clear its name and that it believes the evidence will show it has complied with all applicable rules.
“We are confident of proving our innocence,” Al Mubarak said. “We have worked hard to maintain transparency and to operate within the framework set out by the league.”
Manchester City has said it will cooperate fully with the Premier League’s investigation and that its legal and compliance teams are reviewing the allegations in detail. The club has previously denied any wrongdoing and has maintained that it has always adhered to the league’s financial guidelines.
The Premier League has not yet announced a final decision on the matter, but the club’s statement suggests it is preparing a defence that it will submit to the governing body. The outcome of the investigation will determine whether any sanctions are imposed.
