The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of using his bid for the presidency as a “escape strategy” to avoid forthcoming investigations.
In a statement signed by APC Publicity Secretary Wasiu Sadare and released to Daily Post on Sunday, the party alleged that Makinde, who is the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), is “making all efforts to evade justice” amid a number of alleged graft and abuse‑of‑office cases that, according to the APC, “hang on his neck.”
“The governor decided to run for the highest office in the country in order to create an avenue for him to escape from the country before May 29 2027,” Sadare said. “He is planning to leave the country in January next year.”
Sadare further claimed that Makinde’s campaign is intended to “deceive many Nigerians” and distract anti‑graft agencies, while the APC said it is “working on the details of his plans” and that security agents are already on red alert. He added that Makinde will be made to answer for “all his atrocities since he was sworn in as governor in May 2019.”
Makinde is expected to complete his second term as governor of Oyo State in May next year, but the APC’s statement suggests that his presidential ambition is a pre‑planned exit strategy rather than a genuine bid for office.
