The Los Angeles Lakers have announced a new coffee‑table book that chronicles nearly eight decades of the franchise’s history. Titled Lakers: An Official History of the Purple & Gold, the 528‑page volume is being published in partnership with luxury art‑book house Taschen.
Described as an authorized history, the book spans the team’s origins in Minneapolis, its rise to prominence during the Showtime era of the 1980s, the turn‑of‑the‑millennium three‑peat, and the most recent chapters of the franchise’s story. Richly illustrated with photographs and archival material, the volume is intended as a definitive visual record for fans and collectors.
The Lakers, one of the National Basketball Association’s most storied franchises, have won 17 championships and built a global brand around the purple‑and‑gold colors. Their history includes legendary figures such as George Mikan, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, making a comprehensive, high‑quality book a natural extension of the team’s cultural impact.
“We are thrilled to partner with Taschen to bring this comprehensive visual history to life,” the organization said in a statement. The book will be released by Taschen and is expected to be available through the publisher’s distribution channels and select retailers.
