David Pagou, the current coach of Cameroon’s national football team – the Lions Indomptables – has clarified that wearing the national jersey is not merely a matter of name or reputation. In a recent interview, the selector stressed that the honour of representing the country carries deeper responsibilities.
Pagou explained that his selection process is built around a set of criteria that go beyond a player’s past achievements. While the exact parameters were not detailed, he highlighted that commitment and dedication to the national cause are paramount.
“The Lions Indomptables are a symbol of national pride,” Pagou said. “Choosing the squad is about ensuring that every player embodies the spirit and work ethic required to compete at the highest level.”
Cameroon, located in Central Africa, has a long history of football success, with the Lions Indomptables having won the African Cup of Nations multiple times. The team’s selection process is therefore closely watched by fans and pundits alike.
Pagou’s emphasis on commitment reflects a broader trend among national team coaches who prioritize character and teamwork over individual accolades. The approach aims to build a cohesive unit capable of challenging for continental and global honours.
