LeBron James opened what he has described as his final NBA season with a loss, as his new team, the Philadelphia 76ers, fell 114‑108 to the Brooklyn Nets in a preseason contest.
The game, part of the league’s preseason schedule, saw the Nets outscore the 76ers by six points. While James participated for the first time with Philadelphia, the result marked an inauspicious start to his announced farewell campaign.
James, a four‑time NBA champion and 19‑time All‑Star, joined the 76ers this offseason after a long tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. The move was widely reported as the veteran’s last attempt to win another championship before retirement.
The Nets, based in Brooklyn, New York, used the preseason matchup to evaluate roster depth and integrate new players ahead of the regular season. Their victory added a positive note to their preparations.
Both teams will now turn their focus to upcoming preseason games as they fine‑tune lineups and strategies before the regular season begins in October.
