Kylian Mbappé has publicly defended Real Madrid’s new midfielder, Yan Diomande, saying the Ivorian should be protected from critics after the club’s record signing.
Diomande joined the Spanish giants from RB Leipzig in a €140 million deal, making him the most expensive player in Real Madrid’s history.
Despite the high price tag, the 24‑year‑old has yet to find the net for Los Blancos and has not yet produced a standout performance in La Liga.
“You can clearly see the quality! We will try to protect him,” Mbappé told the French daily AS. “People talk a lot during matches about the €140 million transfer fee and all that. He has already shown that he has what it takes.”
Mbappé’s comments come as Diomande faces scrutiny over his early performances, but the star forward insists the young player has the potential to succeed at the club.
