In many cases, the texts contain a link that directs users to a website that mimics official traffic‑enforcement portals. Once the link is clicked, the site requests personal details or a payment, but it is not affiliated with the Lagos government.
Ministry officials advise drivers to be vigilant and to verify any alleged fines by checking the official Lagos Traffic Management website or by contacting the ministry’s hotline. They also recommend deleting any suspicious messages and refraining from clicking on unfamiliar links.
While the ministry has not released a detailed report on the number of incidents, it stresses that motorists should remain cautious to avoid falling victim to these scams.
