Nigeria's States and Federal Capital Territory Achieve Record IGR in 2025
The National Bureau of Statistics has revealed that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Lagos State emerged as the top contributors to Nigeria's Internal Revenue Generation (IGR) in 2025, generating a total of N5.15tn, marking a 40.92% increase from the previous year's N3.67tn. The report indicates that the FCT and Lagos State contributed 56.5% to Nigeria's IGR in 2025.
The report indicates that Lagos State generated N1,769,202,805.01, accounting for 33.9% of Nigeria's IGR in 2025. The FCT generated N1,486,597,770.16, representing 23.6% of Nigeria's IGR in the same year.
The National Bureau of Statistics stated that the IGR is generated from various sources including taxes, fees, fines and other sources. The report also highlighted that the revenue from taxes accounted for 62.8% of the total IGR, while fees accounted for 32.2%. Local government revenue contributed 4.5% to the total IGR.
The report further revealed that Lagos State generated the highest tax revenue, accounting for 30.1% of the total tax revenue, while the FCT generated 23.5% of the total tax revenue. The report also showed that Lagos State generated 31.8% of the total fees revenue, while the FCT generated 20.7% of the total fees revenue.
