A dispatch rider has died following a collision with a trailer on Ogunnusi Road in Ojodu, Lagos State. The accident occurred late Wednesday opposite the Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM) Church, resulting in fatal head injuries to the victim.
Reporters at the scene observed the deceased lying on the road with visible injuries and blood around his head. Sympathisers and motorists gathered at the location as a LASTMA official assisted in the evacuation exercise, transporting the body to a police station near Grammar School.
An eyewitness present at the scene attributed the cause of the accident to the dispatch rider, though the specific circumstances leading to the collision could not be independently verified. The driver of the trailer reportedly fled the scene shortly after the crash, leaving the victim behind.
A towing vehicle subsequently arrived to remove the trailer and clear the road, allowing traffic to resume. The incident drew the attention of residents and passers-by, many of whom expressed concern over the fatal outcome.
Police are expected to investigate the incident to establish the exact cause of the rider’s death. The identity of the deceased and an official statement from relevant authorities had not been released at the time of filing.
The tragedy underscores the persistent risks faced by dispatch riders and other vulnerable road users in Lagos, particularly when sharing the road with heavy-duty vehicles.
