The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has warned motorists and residents about a surge of fake traffic fine messages and malicious online links that claim to accuse recipients of traffic violations. The advisory, issued on Tuesday, cautions users against clicking on unverified links, sharing personal or banking details, or making payments through unauthorised third‑party platforms.
According to the ministry, the fraudulent messages are designed to trick unsuspecting citizens into surrendering sensitive information. It also highlighted that some fake platforms offer supposed discounts on traffic fines, a tactic used to lure victims into making payments.
The Lagos State Government clarified that it does not provide discounts on statutory traffic penalties through any of its platforms. Approved fines are fixed and can only be paid via officially authorised channels.
Motorists who need to authenticate traffic violation notices or check the status of their vehicles are urged to use only the official online portals supplied by the Lagos State Government. The ministry stressed that all traffic‑related enquiries and payments should be handled exclusively through verified government channels.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, report suspicious messages and websites, and avoid using unofficial platforms for traffic‑related matters. The ministry reiterated that reliance on verified government channels is the safest way to manage traffic violation notices, fines and related transactions.
