The intruders forced their way onto the property, seized the horse, and fled with him. Shortly after the abduction, the kidnappers placed ransom calls demanding payment for Shergar’s safe return.
Following the initial demands, the callers went silent, and no further communication was received. Authorities launched an extensive investigation, but the trail quickly grew cold.
Decades later, Shergar’s whereabouts remain unknown; no body has ever been recovered and no suspect has been formally charged or arrested in connection with the crime.
