A petrol tanker burst into flames on the Eldoret‑Turbo road near Paul Boit Secondary School, killing at least three people and injuring 14 others, authorities confirmed on Thursday night.
The explosion occurred late in the evening on the busy highway that links the towns of Eldoret and Turbo. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene after the tanker, carrying petroleum, ruptured and ignited.
Rescue crews reported that the blast caused a large fire that quickly spread to nearby vehicles and structures. Three people were pronounced dead at the scene, while 14 others sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Police and fire officials are investigating the cause of the incident, but no further details have been released at this time. The incident has prompted a temporary closure of the road segment to allow for a thorough safety inspection.
