In a statement released on Sunday, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris condemned the killing of Alhaji Saidu Mujeli, the village head of Lafagu in Bagudo Local Government Area, and pledged that those responsible would be brought to justice.
The death of the village head came amid a series of attacks around Kaoje that left several people dead and forced residents of the Lafagu and Buya communities to flee their homes, farmlands and businesses.
Signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, the statement read: “I received with profound sadness and deep concern the unfortunate incidents that occurred around Kaoje, particularly in the Lafagu and Buya communities, which resulted in the loss of lives, including the death of the Village Head of Lafagu, Alhaji Saidu Mujeli.”
Idris said the administration is working closely with security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attacks. He added that arrangements are being intensified to strengthen operations in the affected communities and protect lives and property.
The governor also assured displaced residents that the government is working to create conditions for their safe return and the restoration of normal activities in the region.
He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased, to District Head Alhaji Mustapha Usman Kaoje, to the Sarkin Yamma of Kaoje, Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar Kaoje, and to other community and political leaders affected by the violence.
Idris urged residents to remain calm and to cooperate with security agencies by providing information that could help in the apprehension of those responsible for the attacks.
