Kebbi State officials have charged ADC governorship hopeful Abubakar Malami with politicising a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) poverty report in order to criticize the current administration.

The state government said Malami’s use of the UNDP findings was intended to portray the incumbent leadership as ineffective on poverty reduction, rather than to engage with the data on its own merits.

UNDP’s report, which assesses poverty levels across Nigeria’s states, has been cited by various political actors ahead of upcoming elections, but Kebbi authorities argue that Malami’s commentary crossed the line from analysis into partisan attack.

Kebbi’s spokesperson urged political candidates to focus on constructive dialogue and warned that exploiting development data for electoral gain could undermine public trust in both the government and international development partners.
