Kano State Police Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori presented cheques worth a total of N34.3 million to the families of 62 police officers who died while on duty or were injured in accidents. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, 17 September 2026, at the Bompai headquarters of the Kano Police Command.
The distribution was carried out under the Command’s Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme. A total of 62 cheques amounting to N34,309,073.70 were handed to next‑of‑kin of the deceased officers and to the beneficiaries of injured personnel.
“This initiative demonstrates that the sacrifices of fallen officers will never be forgotten,” Commissioner Bakori said, adding that while “no amount of money could replace a life,” the benefit was a token of solidarity with bereaved families. He urged the recipients to use the funds judiciously for the upkeep and education of their children and affirmed the police force’s continued commitment to the welfare of both serving and deceased personnel.
Speaking on behalf of the families, Malama Safiya Abdullahi Adamu thanked the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner for the gesture, praying for the repose of the departed officers and a swift recovery for the injured.
Kano, one of Nigeria’s most populous states, has a long‑standing practice of providing financial support to the families of police personnel through insurance schemes. The recent disbursement underscores the state’s effort to honour its officers and uphold the welfare commitments outlined in national police welfare policies.
