Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS) has resolved more than 5,000 land disputes and reinstated over 150 titles that were unjustly revoked in Kaduna State over the past three and a half years. The agency’s Director General, Dr. Bashir Garba Ibrahim, disclosed these figures during a townhall meeting, noting that the achievements align with directives from Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani to resolve all cases inherited from previous administrations.
Dr. Ibrahim stated that KADGIS has implemented several reforms to streamline land administration under the current government. Key measures include the mandatory registration and accreditation of land agents, as well as the requirement for applicants to provide a National Identification Number (NIN) and a Bank Verification Number (BVN) for the processing of land titles.
The Director General highlighted the resolution of several high-profile conflicts that had affected communities in the state. He noted that residents displaced in 2015 following the demolition of 92 houses in Alhudahuda, Zaria, have been provided with alternative plots of land. Additionally, the dispute between the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria and the Graceland community, which resulted in the demolition of over 200 properties in 2021 due to alleged land encroachment, has been settled.
Further resolutions include the provision of new land titles and alternative plots to former residents of the Malali low-cost housing estate in Kaduna, whose 80 houses were demolished in 2021. Dr. Ibrahim also confirmed that the land titles of CANES Properties have been restored, while SCOA has been allocated alternative plots in Kudenden. The ongoing dispute between Olam and its host community has also been resolved.
The townhall meeting was attended by representatives from professional bodies, traditional leaders, land agents, and various government agencies. Dr. Ibrahim explained that the gathering was convened to strengthen transparency, efficiency, and citizen-centered land administration within Kaduna State.
