Cameroon’s women’s national football team, the Lionnes Indomptables, have learned that their next opponent in the race for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games will be the Ivory Coast women’s side.
The meeting forms part of the Confederation of African Football’s Olympic qualification pathway, which decides which African nations will fill the limited slots allocated for the women’s football tournament in Los Angeles.
Both squads will clash in a decisive encounter that will determine which side progresses further toward an Olympic berth, keeping alive their respective dreams of representing Africa on sport’s biggest stage.
Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire have each advanced through earlier rounds of the continental qualifiers, and the upcoming tie is viewed as a pivotal test of form and ambition.
Should the Lionnes Indomptables prevail, they will move one step closer to joining the ranks of African teams that have previously competed at the Games; Cameroon’s women’s team qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, while Ivory Coast is seeking its first appearance.
The fixture adds another chapter to the growing rivalry between the Central African and West African footballing nations and is expected to draw keen interest from supporters across the region.
