ABUJA — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced on Thursday that its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) has been temporarily shut down due to technical challenges affecting its hosting arrangements. The disruption occurred during the peak period of the national admission exercise, a critical time when tertiary institutions are processing offers and candidates are verifying their status.
CAPS serves as the central platform for managing admissions into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across Nigeria. In a statement issued by Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocols, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board acknowledged the severity of the outage, noting that the system is the primary channel through which admissions are coordinated nationwide.
“The Board is particularly conscious of the timing of this disruption, given that CAPS is the central platform through which admissions into tertiary institutions across the country are processed,” the statement read. JAMB emphasized that the platform is essential for maintaining a transparent, orderly, and coordinated admissions process for both institutions and applicants.
According to the board, discussions have already commenced with the organization responsible for hosting the CAPS platform to identify the root cause of the glitch. JAMB assured stakeholders that it is working to restore the system to full functionality “within the shortest possible time.”
The board stated that the public update was intended to keep candidates, institutions, and other stakeholders informed and to prevent speculation regarding the cause of the outage. “Rather than leave candidates, institutions and other stakeholders to speculate about the cause of the disruption, the Board is providing this update while all necessary efforts are being made to restore the platform,” the statement added.
JAMB apologized for the inconvenience caused by the shutdown and appealed to all users to remain patient while technical teams work to resolve the issue. The board further pledged to review the circumstances surrounding the disruption once the platform is restored, with the goal of implementing measures to prevent similar interruptions in the future. Further updates will be provided as restoration efforts progress.
