In a recent statement to Punch, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani clarified that he has never spoken ill of his predecessor, former governor Nasir El‑Rufai, and that he still holds tremendous respect for him.
Speaking to the Nigerian daily, Sani emphasised that his comments were not a reflection of personal animosity but rather a recognition of El‑Rufai’s contributions to the state. “I have never spoken ill of El‑Rufai,” Sani said, adding that his respect for the former governor remains strong.

El‑Rufai served as governor of Kaduna State from 2007 to 2015 and is known for his focus on infrastructure and public sector reforms. Sani’s remarks come as the new administration seeks to build on the legacy of its predecessor while charting a new course for the state.
The governor’s comments underline a broader trend of political leaders in Nigeria acknowledging the achievements of those who came before them, even as they pursue their own agendas.
