Iran has confirmed that President Masoud Pezeshkian will travel to the United States to attend this week’s United Nations General Assembly in New York. The 81st session, scheduled for 22‑26 September and 28 September, will see the president address the gathering and outline Iran’s positions on a range of international developments, including the ongoing conflict.
During the high‑level conference, Pezeshkian is expected to meet with leaders of several countries on the sidelines, according to Tasnim state media. The trip also includes a brief stop in Qatar before the president heads to New York.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, a key member of Iran’s international negotiation team, will accompany the delegation to the United States after a brief stop in Qatar.
The UNGA’s theme for this year is “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.” The assembly will provide a platform for member states to discuss global challenges and cooperation.
In domestic developments, Iran’s parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has approved a clause in a bill covering the security and development of the Strait of Hormuz. Article 10 of the bill authorises the construction, operation and expansion of communications and information‑technology infrastructure, including fibre‑optic networks, in the strait.
Meanwhile, the United States Central Command announced that its forces continue to enforce the naval blockade against Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman. “CENTCOM forces have redirected 109 commercial vessels to ensure total compliance,” the command said in a post on X.
