Sade Doherty, chairperson of the MUSON Festival planning committee, announced on Monday that indigenous music, drama and opera will headline the 2026 edition of the event.
The announcement was reported by Premium Times Nigeria, which noted that the festival’s leadership is shifting its focus toward showcasing local cultural expressions.
While the MUSON Festival has long been a key event on Nigeria’s cultural calendar, the 2026 programme will place a particular emphasis on indigenous art forms, according to Doherty.
Under the new agenda, the festival is expected to feature a range of performances that highlight traditional music, theatrical productions and operatic works rooted in Nigeria’s diverse heritage.
By foregrounding indigenous music, drama and opera, the organisers aim to celebrate and preserve the country’s rich artistic traditions for both national and international audiences.
